Decomposition method for extracting face topologies from wireframe models (Q1186448)

The authors address the practical problem of first constructing the simplicial decomposition of a given polyhedral set in \(\mathbb{R}^ 3\) on the computer and then the combinatorial problem of extracting all relevant information from the computer stored data. This is a serious practical problem and one feels that workers in computer graphics would be well advised to study older texts like the books of \textit{P. Alexandroff} and \textit{H. Hopf} [Topologie. Bd. 1 (1935; Zbl 0013.07904)] of or \textit{H. Seifert} and \textit{W. Threlfall} [Lehrbuch der Topologie (1934; Zbl 0009.08601)].
