The author suggests a method for reducing the 2(3)-dimensional heat equation on a rectangle (a parallelepiped) to a family of one-dimensional heat equations. In fact the method is an algorithm for reducing a factorizing two-layer difference scheme of second order of approximation to a sequence of one-dimensional difference schemes.
