For the problem \(Mu''+Cu'+Ku=f\) a class of second order integration methods is considered. These methods allow a partitioning of the problem into subsystems which are treated explicitly or implicitly, respectively. For the case \(C=0\) a stability analysis is presented. Sufficient conditions on the parameters of the method are given in order to get unconditional (or conditional) stability.
