The author discusses the application and generalization of a vibrating string density formula developed by \textit{W. A. Pranger} [ibid. 141, No. 2, 399-404 (1989; Zbl 0687.34017)]. Examples and counterexamples limiting the generalization of the formula are presented. The paper is well written. It could be of use to those working in modelling and analysis of vibrating systems.
