In this paper a spectral method is used to solve the three-dimensional hydrodynamic equations for the computation of flows caused by tides or meteorological forces. Turbulent effects in the vertical direction are included by applying an eddy viscosity model. Several examples have been used to test the accuracy, stability and efficiency.
