The method proposed here has some features which are similar to the volume tracking and the subcell resolution method but contains two essential differences. First the problem for locating the interface is uncoupled from the problem of determining the conditions at the interface. The second difference is in how the flux through the boundaries of the cell containing the interface is computed and how the interface is moved from cell to cell. Numerical results are presented to show that the fronts are resolved to within a mesh interval and smooth portions of the solution are computed to within the accuracy of the underlying numerical scheme.
