The author describes an integrated computer aided design and manufacturing system, called FRESDAM (FREe-form Shape Design And Manufacturing), especially developed for use on an engineer's workstation. Mathematically, the description is done using modified bicubic Bézier patches. After finishing the design phase, FRESDAM automatically generates collision-free tool paths for the machinery which then produces the designed object. Some examples, in prticular on the design and manufacturing of a video camera, are included.
