Given a set of function and derivative data, the Hermite cubic interpolation may not be monotone even if the data is. A way to overcome this difficulty is to modify the derivative data in order to guarantee monotonicity. In this paper an alternative approach is proposed based on adding one or two new knots in each subinterval of interpolation.
