The flow at the interface between a plain medium and a porous medium made of cylinders is solved by discretization. Two kinds of boundary conditions are examined: that of Beavers and Joseph which contains a slip coefficient \(\alpha\) and that of Brinkman which contains an effective viscosity \(\mu\). The authors show that \(\alpha\) is not only a function of the structure, but also depends on the flow direction and the Reynolds number, and that a uniform \(\mu\) does not satisfactorily model the flow field.
