On universal solutions in initially stressed bodies (Q1197564)

This article examines the role that the universal solutions (solutions independent of the elastic constants and residual stress) play from the energy point of view. The problems considered are about initially stressed elastic cylinders loaded at the ends. Some results identifying the solution which minimizes the energy are established.
