The authors have studied the unidirectional flows of viscoelastic fluids. There is an analogy between unidirectional flows of incompressible viscoelastic liquids and two-dimensional potential compressible flows of a fictitious ideal gas. The authors have considered a steady unidirectional flow of viscoelastic liquid described by the so-called Oldroyd model consisting of rheological equations reduced to Maxwell model by some small manipulations such as the neglecting of retardation time. They have assumed unidirectional flows with zero pressure gradient and have emphasised on the fact that the constructed composite solution shows the absence of the Sternberg-Koiter paradox. A good piece of work recommended for further studies in this field.
