The authors devise a method for approximating solutions of the time- dependent Navier-Stokes equations on a three-dimensional prism with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and body force in the axial direction. For this special geometry, the authors suggest a Fourier spectral method in the direction of periodicity and finite elements in other directions. The authors prove stability and convergence results and derive error estimates for this hybrid method.
