After surveying the life and career of Bolzano (1781-1848) and praising the current edition in progress of his writings, the author summarises certain achievements which made him a remarkable pioneer in the foundations of mathematical analysis. He chooses the use of nesting intervals, the conception of a real number field, and the continuous non- differentiable function of 1830.
