A model of motion for a thin layer of an incompressible inviscid fluid surrounding a solid spherical planet, which rotates with a constant angular velocity, is given. Introducing some particular assumptions, it is proved that a certain function of vorticity is an invariant of the motion. Using this property, a nonlinear partial differential equation for the stream function is obtained. Finally, the author examines some particular solutions of this equation.
