The interaction of EM wave with dielectric bodies (Q1201586)

The authors consider the 3D problem of interaction of an incident electromagnetic wave with an arbitrarily shaped inhomogeneous dielectric object, characterized by a complex permittivity. Starting from the Maxwell equation the authors establish differential equations for the electric field inside and outside the irradiated object, then they transform these equations in a new partial differential-integral hybrid equation which is solved numerically by a finite element method. The internal field is computed for the dielectric sphere and spheroid.
