The authors consider a spectral rational function method and a method based on domain truncation combined with the Fourier series method for solving differential equations on unbounded domains. Both these methods contain a free parameter which can automatically adapt at regular time levels to maintain optimal accuracy. Numerical tests illustrate that this method is effective and robust.
