This paper is concerned with deriving linear systems for grid generation which should tend to generate nonfolding grids. In 2D, this is done by considering the domain the image of a conformal map of a square. A uniform mesh on the square is refined in one direction, leading to minimization of an integral form. The basic concept is preservation of the cell aspect ratio. In 3D, the domain is mapped on a cube and a similar integral form is derived.
