An arterial stenosis is modelled by considering the steady flow of an incompressible Newtonian fluid in a rigid pipe. An approximate solution in which the velocity profile is described by a polynomial of arbitrary even degree is obtained using an integral momentum approach. The choice of equations for this overdetermined problem is discussed. Numerical results in graphical form are presented for a particular shape of stenosis when the polynomial is of degree 14. These results are compared with experimental and theoretical results of other authors.
