The present analysis is concerned with the transient magneto- thermoelastic disturbances in a solid cylinder. The material of the cylinder is considered to be anisotropic (transversely isotropic, in particular). Furthermore, the cylinder is taken to be an ideal electrical conductor and to be placed in a magnetic field parallel to the axis of the cylinder. The situation where the curved surface of the cylinder is subjected to a ramp-type heating is of specific interest in this investigation. By computing the analytical expressions derived both for coupled and uncoupled cases, numerical values of temperature, displacement and stress are obtained for different values of time of rise of temperature for a suitable material. The results confirm that thermomechanical coupling should be taken into consideration in analysing transient thermoelastic problems.
