This paper considers graded algebras, over a commutative ring, in which the grading is by means of a monoid; among these algebras are group- graded algebras, crossed products, polynomial ring etc.. The prime purpose of the paper is to obtain comprehensive information on the Jacobson radical, whether graded or not, of such algebras. The results themselves either extend or prove more elegantly mainly known results.
