The reconstruction of a Lambertian from a shaded image may be written as a Hamilton-Jacobi equation. Based on the viscosity solution theory and the dynamic programming principle the uniqueness of the solution is investigated, continuing the work of \textit{E. Rouy} and the author [A viscosity solution approach for shape-from-shading, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 29, No. 3, 867-884 (1992; Zbl 0754.65069)]. Numerical results are included.
