A short proof of Martindale's theorem is given: If \(R\) is a prime ring with extended centroid \(C\) satisfying a generalized polynomial identity then \(RC\) contains a minimal idempotent \(e\) such that \(e(RC)e\) is finite dimensional over \(C\).
