Two important theorems concerning the structure of semisimple real Lie algebras are the following: Helgason's theorem on su(2,1)-subalgebra, and Kostant's theorem on 2-transitivity. In this article, the author gives a generalization of the first theorem. A new proof of the second theorem, with use of this generalization, is presented.
