Idempotents in polynomial rings (Q1206287)

The author examines central idempotents and faithful Abelian idempotents [as in \textit{K. R. Goodearl}'s Von Neumann regular rings (1979; Zbl 0411.16007)] for the specific case of skew polynomial rings (Ore extensions). Generally they are found to be restricted to the appropriate idempotents in the group ring, though this may be false if the skewing automorphism shifts (general) idempotents. Reviewer notes that: (1) the examples in (2.3) and (2.4) can be given for ordinary polynomial rings over matrices; (2) the coefficients of \(h\) in (3.8) are reversed; (3) the equation in the proof of (3.9) should be the equation of Proposition (3.1).
