The authors compare the practical efficiency of simulated annealing versus genetic algorithm for the inversion of a one-dimensional seismogram. The implementation is carefully discussed. They observe a good behaviour of both algorithms for a number of parameters up to 22; with 30 parameters the genetic algorithm can still solve the problem, whereas simulated annealing is defeated.
