This is a survey of the results on semigroup algebras that have finitely many nonisomorphic indecomposable finite dimensional modules (so-called algebras of finite representation type). Some of the fundamental theorems on general algebras of finite type are stated, followed by results for special classes of algebras: group rings and semigroup rings of commutative semigroups, completely 0-simple semigroups, and the full transformation semigroups of a finite set.
