It was pointed out by D. Hilbert in his ``Grundlagen der Geometrie'' (1899) that the regular polygons that can be constructed with ruler and compass, can be constructed with ruler and gauge as well. The author of this paper shows how to actually perform the construction in the case of the regular 17-gon.
