The author establishes necessary and sufficient conditions for the property that all \(n\times n\) matrices of rank less than \(n\) in a Hermitian ring are products of idempotents, in particular showing that this holds if and only if all invertible matrices are products of elementary matrices, and for the fact that it suffices to consider \(2 \times 2\) matrices.
