The results of \textit{M. Marden} [Geometry of polynomials (1966; Zbl 0162.371)] for the number of zeros of an irreducible complex rational function in a sector of plane are generalized. Using the Sturm method in the complex case the number of zeros in a sector of plane are exactly computed. Numerical examples are given.
