A variation of the Gauss elimination with reduction process and the decomposition of the computation of the order of some finite linear groups of a matrix is described. Some applications are given analogous to canonical forms of decompositions. The canonical Gauss decomposition is also discussed for the case when the eigenvector matrix contains a nontrivial permutation in the canonical Gauss decomposition.
