The implementation aspects of a surface finite element meshing algorithm described in part I [ibid. 8, No. 3, 121-137 (1992; Zbl 0757.65119)] are presented. The meshing scheme is based on the medial axis transform to interrogate shape and to subdivide it into topologically simple subdomains. Finally some results on adaptive \(h\)- and \(p\)-adaptive finite element analysis of plane stress problems are reported. These results demonstrate the potential applicability of the presented techniques in computer aided design.
