A two-dimensional model of electrical breakdown in a non-uniform gap is numerically examined by finite difference methods. It is concluded that a finite difference method that combines the upwind difference scheme for the drift terms, the central difference scheme for the diffusion terms and also implicit time integration is most suitable for discharge breakdown problems. Numerical results are included.
