The authors present a model of the behaviour of Bingham-like fluids which exhibit a field stress. A continuous mathematical formulation is utilized as the constitute law instead of the Bingham model itself. To solve general lubrication problems, a generalized Reynolds equation is established. Several special cases are examined, and the results obtained are compared where possible with their counterparts in the Bingham theory. Some interesting results are obtained which are not predicted neither from Newtonian nor Bingham models.
