On the energy balance for continuous mixtures (Q1209085)

The work uses the balance equations in the form stated by \textit{R. J. Atkin} and \textit{R. E. Craine} [Quart. J. Mech. Appl. Math. 29, 209-244 (1976; Zbl 0339.76003)], except for the energy balance for the mixture as a whole. Its main purpose is to present an alternative form for the aforementioned equation in order to avoid some physical inconsistences which arise from the use of the equation proposed by Atkin and Craine, which is essentially equivalent to the one presented by \textit{A. Bedford} and \textit{D. S. Drumheller} [Int. J. Eng. Sci. 21, 863-960 (1983; Zbl 0534.76105)].
