The authors describe a procedure how to determine the orientation of an unknown cylindrical body from measurements of the electromagnetic far field patterns. Under the Born approximation they derive a representation of the scattered field which allows the determination of the orientation via the solution of simple transcendental equations. Some special cases and an explicit example complete the paper.
