Restricting to certain classes of discrete life distributions, some characterizations of geometric distributions based on moments or conditional moments of order statistics, as well as those based on conditional moments of record values or spacings, are given, amongst other things. Some of the results appearing in this paper have links with certain results discussed by \textit{C. R. Rao} and \textit{D. N. Shanbhag} [Adv. Appl. Probab. 18, 660-678 (1986; Zbl 0607.62005)].
