The author gives another proof of the following result of \textit{H. Sumihiro} [``Equivariant completion. I, II'', J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 14, 1- 28 (1974; Zbl 0277.14008) and 15, 573-605 (1975; Zbl 0331.14008)]: Every normal algebraic variety \(X\) containing a torus \(T\) such that the birational action of \(T\) on \(X\) is in fact biregular, has an equivariant open cover. The methods of the proof had been developed by the author in an earlier paper [see Duke Math. J. 58, No. 1, 79-88 (1989; Zbl 0708.14035)].
