Summary: The aim of this note is to present an existence result for one of the functionals proposed by \textit{D. Mumford} and \textit{J. Shah} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 42, No. 5, 577-685 (1989; Zbl 0691.49036)] under more general hypotheses with respect to the existing literature. The local finiteness of the optimal partitions is also shown.
