As a by-product of C. S. Gordon's survey (see the preceding review Zbl 0686.58035), the author claims to produce ``music on manifolds'' (i.e. a sound whose overtones are determined by the spectrum of these manifolds), and illustrates this by means of an enclosed soundsheet. The result is really terrible to hear. Fortunately, music is not made up just by overtones, but relies on and produces emotion, devotion, and eroticism. That's why many mathematicians like music, but very few musicians like mathematics.
