The production and growth of cells within wool follicles is modelled as a highly viscous flow. Assuming the viscosity, cell density, and cell production rate (all spatially varying fields) to be known, an elliptic PDE for the cellular velocity field is derived on the basis of continuum mechanics. Numerical solutions are presented for various boundary conditions, aiming at a realistic description of the origination of wool fibres.
