The author extends to smooth algebraic surfaces and 3-folds in \(\mathbb{P}^n\) results by Castelnuovo, Harris and others concerning the projective normality of the variety at stake and its being a hypersurface of a nondegenerate variety of maximal degree with respect to the codimension in \(\mathbb{P}^n\).
