We propose a nonclassical constitutive relation for a slip system by using a simple mechanical model, and perform an analysis of polycrystalline response based on KBW's self-consistent theory. Since no yield criterion is employed, no additional iteration is needed for the determination of the activation of slip system and slip direction. The proposed constitutive relation together with the corresponding approach for polycrystalline response is applied to the analysis of the nonproportional cyclic plasticity of 316 stainless steel along some typical biaxial strain paths.
