The authors consider the following situation: two solids, interacting frictionally, are pressed together, and a displacement SH pulse is produced at the separating surface. The problem is described by a mixed boundary problem which is solved by Fourier transform. The authors derive solutions for the local slip and for the shearing traction, and give some numerical examples.
