The authors investigate plane Stokes flows generated by a singularity situated at infinity exterior to a circular cylinder. It is shown that the primary flow into which the circular cylinder is introduced has to satisfy certain consistency conditions. These conditions bring out the non-uniqueness which arises in the no-slip images of line singularities such as the source, rotlet or doublet in the presence of a circular cylinder.
