According to the blow-up theory for nonlinear dynamic system, we demonstrate that the blow-up of nonlinear heat conduction equation is similar to the evolution of an observed ground temperature `flow'. A successful simulation of the Tang Shan earthquake in 1976 indicates that our approach can predict earthquakes. As for the Tang Shan earthquake, the predicting time is about five months.
