The aim of this paper is to prove that any bilaterally cancellative semigroup \(S\) of cohomological dimension \(1\) is embeddable into a group, in fact, it is proved that \(S\) is an \(L_\infty\) semigroup. It is known that the converse is not true. Some properties of cyclic systems of equations in cancellative semigroups of cohomological dimension \(1\) are stated.
