The author makes a mathematical connection between discrete-time Leslie matrix models (of arbitrary dimension) and continuous-time impulsive McKendrick PDE models. Using this connection, the biologically sound McKendrick models could be viewed as perturbations of idealized Leslie models. The author also applies her approach to the experimental population model of \textit{R.F. Constantino} and \textit{R.A. Desharnais} [Population dynamics and the Tribolium model: genetics and demography. (1991; Zbl 0805.92018)], the LPA Tribolium model.
