The articles of this volume will be reviewed individually. The electronic issue contains a preface by D. Foata and (currently?) four talks and a special invited survey paper by R. Speicher (main lecture). A second main lecture was given by D. Blessenohl and A. Jöllenbeck on `Solomon's descent algebra. I--III'.
