The local observability of a dynamical system corresponding to the mass action type model of chemical reactions is investigated by making use of results on local observability within an invariant manifold [cf. \textit{Z. Varga}, PU.M.A., Pure Math. Appl., Ser. B 3, No.1, 15-25 (1992; Zbl 0771.92014)]. The obtained sufficient condition for local observability is illustrated by three examples of formal chemical reactions.
