The authors investigate the sum-of-digits function with respect to linear recurring base sequences as considered by \textit{P. Grabner} and \textit{R. F. Tichy} [Manuscr. Math. 70, 311-324 (1991; Zbl 0725.11005)]. A central limit theorem and a local limit law are proved. The authors apply a generating function approach and asymptotic analysis tools, such as saddle point approximations.
